Feedback is a Superpower
Imagine a world without feedback.
I know we all have moments when we wish for less feedback. But a world with no feedback would leave me rudderless. It would be like leaving the harbor in a boat, moving forward, but not knowing if the forward movement was getting me closer to or further from my destination.
I have one client in particular who, above all else, demands feedback from me. At the end of each call he says, “I want your feedback. And I want the critical stuff. What am I not seeing? Where can I improve?”
I know many people who say that they value feedback and embrace feedback, but this guy demands it. He does not fear it. He knows that hearing it and then discerning if he wants to take action on it, is what has gotten him to where he is today.
He is someone who has made asking for and receiving feedback his superpower.
Here’s his recipe:
Ask for feedback often.
Specifically ask for critical or growth focused feedback.
Reflect on what you hear and then discern if and how you want to take action on it.
Experiment with it by taking action and then reflecting on the impacts.
Adopt, adapt, or discard based on reflection.
Repeat.
I encourage you to make 2022 the year to tame any fears you have about feedback.
Make it your superpower!
