How skillful and intentional are you at building trust?
Building sustainable long-term trust is essential for anyone who manages, leads, or hopes to lead people. Building that trust begins not with others, but with our own actions and behaviors. And building trust is influenced by how our own emotional energy telegraphs our trustworthiness.
In times of uncertainty and rapid change, it is critical that leaders are aware of the ways in which they demonstrate their trustworthiness. And it’s equally important to be aware of the ways in which they demonstrate being untrustworthy.
If you are not yet recognized as a leader, understand that the time to start demonstrating trustworthiness is not when you are promoted, but right now. Trustworthiness will help you get invited into the meetings, discussions, and relationships that build the future of your career.
It is far easier to build trustworthiness than it is to repair damaged perceptions of your trustworthiness. Every communication, every behavior, every reaction or response, contributes to the perception of whether you are trustworthy or not.
